Abstract EN

Potential-time curves, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction techniques are used to study the development of phosphate layers on steel.

The effects of galvanic coupling of the steel to various areas of zinc metal is considered.

Particular attention is paid to the boundary region between steel and differing types of zinc coating.

The development of phosphate growth and its phase composition are found to be significantly altered by both physical and galvanic effects.
