Abstract AR
Abstract EN
Wireless sensor networks have numerous exciting applications in virtually all fields of science and engineering; including health care, industry, military, security, environmental science, geology, agriculture, and social studies.
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of small nodes with sensing, computation, and wireless communications capabilities.
Many routing, power management, and data dissemination protocols have been specially designed for WSNs.
The focus has been given to the routing protocols which might differ depending on the application and network architecture.
In this paper we discuss and evaluate the performance of two different routing protocols like Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV) for monitoring of critical conditions with the help of important metrics like throughput, delay and data packet loss in different scenarios.
The performance measures have been analyzed varying with traffic load, mobility, node failure, and network size.
Although DSR and AODV share similar on-demand behavior, the differences in the protocol mechanics can lead to significant performance differentials.
Simulation results indicate that DSR outperforms AODV in terms of throughput and data packets dropped.
But DSR has dramatic reduction in performance when traffic load increases and mobility is high.
