Abstract EN

In inhabiting this paper we try to find and identify the catch composition of fin fishes and other fauna in habiting the area of trawling in the southern Sudanese Red Sea coast (Talla Kaper and Sager).

The data were taken monthly at sea from operating trawlers, and from the records of the Fisheries Administration The catch composition for the years 1984, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008 (seven categories: Shrimps, Squids, the three fish species saurida undosquamis, Nemipterus japonicus and Mulloides flavolineatus and Other commercial fishes, Discards, was taken, and analysis of the soil were mention also for the area.

The highest contribution during most years is represented by the discard which comprised 63.4 % of the catch in 2005.

The minimum recorded was 26.8% in 1991.

The highest percentage for Squids was in 2004 ( 2.9%) and minimum in 1999 (0.0%).

For Shrimps 5.6%(2008) to 0.2%(1998 and 1999) S.

undosquamis, (47.4%(1999) 12.2(2005), N.

japonicus, 15.6%(1998) to 4.8%(2005) M.

flovolineatus, 14.5%(2002) to 1.4%(1996), and other commercial fishes, 37.6%(1991) to 0.0%(2002).

It appears that most of the catch of trawling was obtained from day fishing, especially for S.

undosquamis, N.

japonicus, M.

flovolineatus and Discard.

On the other hand most of Shrimps, Squids, and Other Commercial fishes were obtained from night fishing.

A statistically it is appear that the relation between day and night fishing significant in some categories and not significant in others.

The study show that the factors of soil types and depth governing the catch composition of the fishes area.

A total of 30 species of fishes belonging to 22 families were encountered in the Southern Area.
