Ecognition of Arabic handprinted mathematical formulae

Abstract EN

This paper pro^ses a technique for the recognition of handprinted and/or printed Arabic mathematical formulae.

The technique can be divided into five major components: ) acquisition2) ؛) decomposing of formulae into component characters using separate algorithms ; (3) segmentation of words into characters ; (4) recognition; and (5) formulae parsing using a mathematical grammar.

The processing speed is close to two characters per second with a 87 % recognition rate.
