English Abstract
breast cancer is the commonest type of cancer in Iraq and worldwide.
The current study was conducted to study the immunohistochemical expression of urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR), plasminogen activator inhibitor type -1(PAI-1) and B cell lymphoma 3 (Bcl3) for the breast tumors by using tissue microarray (TMA) technique.
Additionally, assessed of immunohistochemical expression for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor -2(HER-2) in this study.
Fifty- four cases were evaluated in this study, seven cases were benign and forty-seven were malignant type infiltrative ductal carcinoma.
Two TMAs blocks were used in current study, TMA recipient blocks were designed and constructed for the first time, each block contained two cores from each donor block and each core was represented to original donor block.
Information for samples were saved in excels data sheet and corresponding to TMA map.
Patient's age in this study ranged from 29-85 years with a mean of 50.7±11.8 years.
The peak age frequency was in the age category 40-49 years (fifth decade) at time of diagnosis.
Immunohistochemical expression of uPA was positive in 36 out of 47 (76.6%), uPAR expression was observed in 37 out of 47 cases (78.7%).
PAI-1 positive expression showed in 42 out of 47 cases (89.3%).
Bcl3- was positive expression in 36 cases (76.6%).
ER, PR and HER-2/neu positive expressions were seen (63.8%, 23.4% and 25.5% respectively).
ER+/PR+ (23.4%), ER+/PR- (38.3%), ER-/PR+(0%) and ER-/PR-(38.3%).
Triple negative breast cancer was observed in this study in 12 out of 47 cases (25.5%).
Significant association of uPA with (uPAR, PAI-, and Bcl3) as well singnificant association of Bcl3 with (uPA, uPAR and PAI-1).
7 This study also showed no direct association of uPA, uPAR, PAI-1 and Bcl3 expressions with ER, PR and HER-2/neu.
Significant association found between pathological stage and uPA, whereas not with other markers.
Significant association was showed between grade and HER-2/neu, while no with the rest markers.
This study reported that no association between nodal status, largest tumor size and age of patients with positive expression of uPA, uPAR, PAI-1, Bcl3, ER, PR and Her-2/neu.
