English Abstract

RNase activities in saliva of 30 patients with benign tumors, 33 patients with malignant tumors and 25 normal subjects were measured.

The first part of this study was devoted to:- 1.

The measurement of RNase activity (alkaline and acid) in saliva of control, patients groups.

The results indicated presence of a highly significant elevation (p<0.001) of these enzyme’s activities in cancer groups in comparison with those of other groups.

2.

Upon conventional electrophoresis of the crude saliva samples of the above three studied groups.

Differences in the patterns of proteins and RNase activity were found.

The second part of this study dealt with follow the changes and the alterations in saliva alkaline RNase using gel filtration chromatography as a tool.

The results revealed the presence of many peaks with RNase activity in the saliva of all studied groups.

All these peaks exhibited an activity, when the enzymatic reactions were carried out in Davis buffer at pH 8 and 5, except one peak which was separated from the saliva of malignant patients, which showed RNase activity only when the enzymatic assay was carried out at an alkaline buffer (pH=8).

The Summary VII The third part of this study dealt with the study of some properties of the two peaks which have been isolated by gel filtration chromatography from the saliva samples, and showed maximum RNase activity.

Such study included stability, determination of molecular weight, and effect of substrate concentration, pH value and cations on the activity.
