Abstract EN

This study examines the structure of conditional clause in Swahili language.

Conditional clause occurs only as subordinate clause and can never occur independently in a complete sentence.

The complete sentence may contain one or more subordinate clauses.

This study examines the concept of conditional clause according to viewpoint of linguists, and the concept of conditional clause in Swahili language as well as syntactic structure of conditional clause and their function in sentences in accordance with the theory of immediate constituent analyses, which is intended to analyze syntactic structure in a language: at phrase, clause, or sentence levels, till it reaches at smallest meaningful unit i.e morpheme.

The researcher analyzed the structure of conditional clause in Swahili language to their main constituents using tree diagram.

The main language elements of conditional clause are illustrated in the tree diagram form.

The tree branches in form of straight lines represent the linguistic elements constituting the phrase pairs in the sentence that finalized to the smallest meaningful linguistic constituent known as morpheme.
