Abstract EN

This study endeavors to identify the role of the media in the field of sport in general and the African sports journalism in particular in reducing the phenomenon of Hooliganism among community groups who are most affected by that.

The problem of the study revolved around the effectiveness of the media and its tools to reduce this phenomenon, which has become one of tangible and widespread phenomena in contemporary sports communities.

The study used the descriptive approach as a comprehensive approach side by side with the field survey method in the field study framework.

The results of the study showed that the African sports journalism had no role, what so ever, in reducing the phenomenon of Hooliganism.

These results showed that the sports newspapers and the social media are the most provoking and fueling of this phenomenon of Hooliganism.

This result confirmed the negative role of the media represented in these two methods, whereas the study showed that the lack of awareness of sports culture as well as the writings of some journalists and media professionals in the sports newspapers that results in violence and intolerance are among the highest possibility of fueling the phenomenon of intolerance among some of the study groups.

Based on the findings, the researcher has recommended that the African sports journalism should move away from gaining and profiting style as well as from provoking method, which are practiced by some journalists.

The researcher also recommends that the journalist should gear their message towards sports and sportsmen to enhance their awareness in sports and fighting all exotic phenomena, which may harm sport and its practice.
