English Abstract
This study aimed to introduce the quality assurance agenda at the University of Petra (UoP), and its impact on teaching and learning from the faculty members view point.
University of Petra’s Strategic Plan for Quality Assurance (SPQA) is discussed.
Quality Assurance criteria for Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), UK, Higher Education Accreditation Commission (HEAC), Jordan, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) are indicated, and Strategic Plan model is illustrated.
A questionnaire was constructed as the major tool for collecting the data needed to answer the research questions.
The sample consists of a number of stakeholders including but was not limited to faculty, students and local community members.
The findings indicated that the impact of Quality Assurance on effectiveness of teaching and learning is directly depending on the degree of implementation of Quality Assurance criteria.
Quality Assurance criteria may be national or international but once they are endorsed, they must be rigorously implemented, monitored, measured, and regularly updated.
The study’s conclusions indicate that disseminating of QA culture is a vital step towards Quality Management Enhancement (QME) which will, in the long run, have a positive impact on excellence of higher education institutions.
It is also concluded that studies of a nature similar to the current one, are important in terms of redirecting the QA plans.
In the light of the findings of this study, the recommendations presented were focused on the importance of implementation of Quality Assurance which affects the educational programs, students and members of staff's development and progression.
