English Abstract

This work included studying the effect of mobile phone radiation on individuals (28) who had been using mobile for (2-5) hours every day for at least one year as group (C), as well as studying the effect of mobile phone base station radiation on the individuals (42) who live near the mobile phone base station within a distance (20-50) meters as group (B) in comparison with control group (A) individuals consist of (36) with normal use of mobile phone (10 min/day) and live far from mobile phone base station.

The present study can be divided in to two parts:- ● The first part of the study included determination the concentration of total protein, ceruloplasmin concentration, ceruloplasmin enzymatic activities (ferroxidase and oxidase activity) and determination of copper and iron concentration in sera of each sample in all sera groups.

The results showed the following data:- 1.

There was no change in serum total protein concentration in both groups (B, C) when compared with group (A) as control group.

2.

Decreased serum ceruloplasmin concentration in the group (C) (P< 0.05), but this concentration unchanged in the group (B).

3.

Increase in ceruloplasmin ferroxidase activity (P< 0.02) in the group (B) only, while its ferroxidase specific activity decreased in group (C) (P< 0.01), but unchanged in both group (B, C) when calculated relative to the ceruloplasmin concentration.

4.

Ceruloplasmin oxidase activity unchanged in both group (B, C) in comparison with that of group (A).

While its specific activity decreased in both group (B) and (C) (P< 0.05), but decreased in the group (B) only when calculated relative to the ceruloplasmin concentration.

5.

Unchanged in the serum copper and iron concentration in both group (B, C) in comparison with that of group (A).

XV · The second part of this study involved purification of ceruloplasmin.

And determination of optimum conditions and kinetic studies of its oxidase activity.

The results of this part can be summarized as follows:- 1.

The purification which was carried out using two steps :( isolation by poly ethylene glycol-4000 and ion exchange chromatography).

Gave results such as yield (44%, 52%, 43%) for groups (A, B, C) respectively, and fold purifications (63, 86, 103) for groups (A, B, C) respectively.

2.

Estimation of Km and Vmax of partially purified enzyme for the three groups (A, B, C) by Lineweaver-Burk.

Where the Km and Vmax in the group (A, B, C) Km equal to (1.23, 1.12, 1.19) mM respectively and Vmax equal to (9, 13.2, 13.5) (U/L) respectively.
