English Abstract

A study has been made of sporadic E related by critical frequency f0Es and their relationships with geomagnetic activity Kp-index, solar activity as sunspot number (SSN) was also conducted.

Mid-latitude region was selected for this research work by using data from one of the Japanese stations, Kokubunji (35.7PoP N, 139.5PoP E).

The years selected for high sunspot were (1989, 1991 from solar cycle 22 and 2002, 2003 from solar cycle 23), and the years for low sunspot chosen were (1995, 1996 from solar cycle 22 and 2007, 2008 from solar cycle 23).

This study included four seasons for each year selected represented by (March for spring, June for summer, September for autumn, December for winter).

Influence of geomagnetic activity on E sporadic layer critical frequency parameters revealed that there is a positive trend for the years of high SSN and for all seasons except autumn of solar cycle 22 and summer of solar cycle 23, it negative trend.

Negative trend for years of low SSN and all seasons except in solstice seasons (spring & autumn) of years 2007 and 2008 reveals positive trend.

Also yearly variation was studied for four hours (0h nighttime, 6h sunrise, 12h noontime and 18h for sunset).

In summer months with long daytime the percentage of appearance of Es layer is much higher compared to levels observed in winter months.

The diurnal and seasonal variation of Es height (h'Es) for the eight years chosen was also conducted, the average of three months for each season, (2-4 for spring, 5-7 for summer, 8-10 for autumn, 11-1 for winter), with local time which revealed that the time difference between sunrise and sunset peak tends to decreases from summer to winter.

The variation of f0Es with the Sun distance rs for year 2002 for all month at 12 LT was conducted, this revealed there are liner relation and ejective proportional between f0Es with Sun distance rs.

Variation of f0Es with solar zenith angle for the same year for 12 LT where taking the declination of the Sun and its variation with date through year 2002 and get the solar zenith angle (Z), was also conducted, it seen there are linear relation and inversely proportional between f0Es with solar zenith angle (Z).
