English Abstract

The first stage of this thesis is the construction of an empirical HF communication prediction model.

The preparation of an empirical implies a big significance, it will be a prediction tool for the optimal HF frequency that have approximately permanent link between Baghdad/Iraq (the transmitting station) and many other receiving stations that are distributed within Middle East region. The goal of designing the empirical mathematical formula or model is to reach the simplest, less expensive and fast way that can be served to forecast the frequency of optimum traffic (FOT).

The simplicity, fast implementation and accuracy should be satisfied by the adopted empirical model.

These attributes can be achieved since the studied geographical region, the season, and the smoothed sunspot number (Ssn) is limited.

This limitations will supply the ability to study the considered region accurately and deeply.

So the above limitations will procure the simplicity because most locations in the limited geographic region have approximately the same common characteristics. The maximum usable frequency (MUF) which defined as highest frequency that can be propagate between two sites on the Earth’s surface and the corresponding elevation angle for specified path length are calculated using the integral equation called Bouger’s rule which is depends on the ray tracing phenomena.

The results of these calculations are propagated graphically with results of one of the international prediction models
