English Abstract

The most important responsibility of a database administrator is to prepare for the possibility of a hardware, software error or failure.

When any of these failures occur the major goal of the DBA is to make the database available to users within an acceptable time period, and to ensure that committed data is preserved.

It is important that the DBA define a database backup and recovery strategy.

The investment in the time it takes to define and implement a database backup and recovery strategy will pay off the first time that the important data needs to be recovered after a system hardware failure.

This Dissertation is concerned with the implementation of the most general backups and recoveries methods (Hot, Cold, Export/Import and same types of the main Oracle files recovery) using Oracle8 database management system.

The software package programming are executed and run under WindowsXP.
