English Abstract

High temperature superconductors with a nominal composition (Bi0.8Pb0.2)2(Sr0.9Ba0.1)2 Ca2(Cu1-x Nix)3O10+d for 3x=0,0.1….1,2,3 were prepared by solid state reaction method.

The effect of substitution of (Ni) on Cu , sintering time , different pressure and sintering temperature has been investigated to obtain the optimum conditions for the formation and stabilization of the high Tc phase (2223).

The results showed that the optimum sintering temperature for the pure composition is 850˚C and sintering time is 140h with quenching in air.

Two sets of samples have been prepared for each superconducting pure compound in order to observe the effect of sintering time and cooling conditions.

The first set of samples was quenched in air, the second set was quenched in liquid nitrogen.

It has been found that quenched in air samples display a sharp superconducting transition and a higher-Tc phase than that of the quenched in liquid nitrogen samples.

Substitution of Ni with 3x=0.7 ,0.8 will increase the critical temperature to Tc=103 K and 113K while 3x=0.6 decreases the critical temperature to Tc=96 ,but when 3x= 0.5,0.9,1and 2 the resistivity decreases slowly but does not become zero even at the boiling point of liquid nitrogen but it behaves like a superconductor.

Increasing of Ni equal to 3 the compound becomes insulator.

The x-ray analyses for all superconductor samples showed an orthorhombic structure with two phases high-Tc phase (2223) and low-Tc phase (2212) in addition to that an impure phase was found.

It was found that the lattice parameter value a increase with the increase of Ni content ,while the lattice parameter value c was decreased.

Abstract The effect of Ni content for (Bi0.8Pb0.2)2(Sr0.9Ba0.1)2Ca2(Cu1- xNix)3O10+d with 3x=0.0,0.8,1 and 2 on the mechanical properties such as ((Vickers microhardness (HV ), Young’s modulus (E) ,yield strength (Y) , fracture toughness KIC and surface energy ) was studied.

The results showed a deterioration of the mechanical properties with the enhancement of Ni content.
