English Abstract

Packed Cell Volume (PCV) and Hemoglobin (Hb) Concentration are the red cell indices used to characterize the blood.

Previous studies deal with blood contents in different biosensors, but there is no study includes hemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume as biomarker for diagnosis of disease, according to our knowledge this study focus light on the important of Hb and PCV as indicator of anemia and viscosity for that this study aimed to: The possibility of using optical fiber as a biosensor to measure Hb concentration in anemic patients, and for viscosity diagnosis dependent on the PCV value.

Two techniques (transmittance and polarization dependency) have been developed to achieve aims above several wavelengths (410, 532 and 632nm) have been used during this work.

Blood samples were obtained from healthy volunteer donors, and from patients with different diseases.

Two optical systems, optical fiber based (attenuation and laser polarization) measurements are developed in this work.

In an instrument based on light coupled with optical fibers utilized to examine the Hb concentration as indicator for anemic patients, and PCV as indicator for patients with viscosity.

Firstly, the activity of present device for anemia, and saturation sensing affected by two important factors.

First, related to the device component, and the light wavelength.

Each wavelength has different features give its ability to pass the organic materials, such us energy, or intensity differs from light to another. The second factor related to samples, as the samples' freshness, hemolysis, bilirubin content for each sample, and the ability to absorb quantity of light used in this study First, three wavelengths (410nm, 532nm, and 632nm) are utilized attenuation technique for Hb measurements.

Recent study demonstrates that the light laser (λ=632nm) was significantly sensing (p<0.05) on the Anemic women with low rate of Hb 10.575, while the normal Hb for healthy women is 13.27.

The light transmission I/I0 of patients is 0.52, in comparable of the normal samples, where their I/I0 is 0.62.

In addition, no significant differences were seen in the transmission red laser light of men with anemia, where I/I0 of patients and normal people is0.61, and 0.67 respectively.

Secondly, light polarization technique, using the same wavelengths for Hb measurements.

Current study reveals the efficiency of using laser light (λ=632nm) after adding set of polarizer and analyzer to the setup for sensing the Hb rate achieved a significant light transmission I/I0 of women and men groups is 0.7725, 0.503333 respectively.

In comparable to normal groups, are 0.6085, 0.957333 respectively.

PCV values as viscosity disease indicator by using the slide technique are measured.

The present results conclude that the light wavelength λ=532nm is very important in viscosity (saturation) diagnosis.

The efficiency of green laser light at λ=532nm for diagnosis of our samples significantly p< 0.05, in this case the mean value of I/I0 is 0.7545 of the patient women group, while in normal individual I/I0 is 0.95525.

However, for men groups results show highly sensation of green light with highly blood viscosity, the I/I0 is 0.753 for patient group, there's significant difference (p<0.05) from the normal individuals, where mean of I/I0 is 0.985667.

However, the results of absorption coefficients came in same line with the statistical analysis which confirm that the difference between patients and normal were highly significant.
