English Abstract

In this research, five oil wells are selected according to the presence of oil in formations and availability of core samples.

These wells are located in the province of Basra - southern Iraq.

The Formation that the samples are collected from Mishrif, Zubair, Ratawi and Yamama Formations.

The oil field that the wells are selected from Luhais, Ratawi and Tuba oil fields.

Many core samples are taken from each well at different depths.

The compressional and shear wave velocities were measured for all samples of cores.

In the current study the ultrasonic waves method is conducted to measure some petrophysical properties for core samples and some elastic moduli such as (Young's modulus, Bulk modulus, Shear modulus, Poisson's ratio and Lame's constant) depending on the values of Vp ,Vs and density.

The relationship between seismic wave velocities and elastic moduli and petrophysical properties are plotted.

The average porosities calculated depend on Vs values for each core samples of well.

Four core samples (2 from Lu5c4 well and 2 from Rt7c1 well) are selected to conduct laboratory measurements' for porosity with the purpose of comparing them with the results of porosity calculated from Vs
