English Abstract

Noise pollution is a scourge of the times and one of the most important pollutants in the modern era that have been associated with technological development and has become a threat to society institutions, especially schools.

This study aims to assess noise pollution and determine the relationship between noise level with blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), pulse rate and the performance of the students in the primary and secondary schools of the directorate of west Gaza.

Noise level was evaluated in 47 schools belonging to the directorate-west Gaza levels secondary and primary, males and females schools by taking the average of the readings of the noise in these schools and comparing them with each other.

Then, the measurements of blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) and pulse rate were taken for (432) students, (184 male /248 female), before noise exposure and after staying in school for at least four hours after exposure to noise.

The age of these students were between (13-17) years.

And (445) questionnaires were distributed to students dealing with several items which summarized in; the student personal information, identify the source of noise in their schools and determine the effect of noise on them in general and on their education in particular.

An experiment was conducted on two groups of students, the first was control group and the second was trial, to study the effect of noise on the students blood pressure, pulse rate and achievement.

In this study, two devices were used, the noise measuring device, and the mercurial pressure device.

Then, t-test was used to discover the difference between the variables .

Excel software was used to make different figures which make reading and expressing the results easier The results of the survey were as follows: The range of the noise levels in these schools was between (49.0 - 67.5) dB, where Bashir El Rayes Secondary Girls School had the highest level of noise while Kafr Kasim Secondary Girls School had the lowest level of noise The results showed that there is a relationship between noise exposure and the students blood pressure, pulse rate and achievement.

Whereas, there was an increase in female students pulse rate after exposure to noise.

While, males blood pressure affected more than females.

The study also showed that there is a relationship between grade and the pulse rate, where pulse rate was higher in the primary schools before and after exposure to noise.

Meanwhile, the rise in the blood pressure readings were affected more in secondary schools.

As for academic achievements the effect of noise on the female is larger than its effect on the male.

While, the effect of noise on the primary schools students was more than its impact on secondary school students.

According to the questionnaire most of the students said that the outside noise affects them more.

However, it has effects on the students learning abilities and their general health and their academic achievement.

Whereas (32.8%) of the students said that the main streets are the source of noise and (32.4%) said that street hawkers are the source of noise.

This study suggests recommendations for decision-makers to minimize the problem of noise pollution in schools in Gaza Strip, to improve students health and their academic achievement
