Abstract EN
Low Back Pain (LBP) is a common complaint of widely varying etiology.
The therapeutic strategy for treatment of LBP depends on its cause.
Acupuncture medicine (AC) is among the treatments used for management of LBP. This is a prospective non-randomized observational study of 166 patients.
With ,LBP Without acute neurological deficit presenting to the physician’s office The Verbal Pain Scale (VPS) was used to score patient pain Prior to and after acupuncture therapy.
Of 166 patients 76 (45.8%) were male and 90(54.2%) were female. 40.4% of patients were between 31 and 45 years old .34 patients (20.5%) had an underlying systemic disease such as diabetes mellitus or hypertension.
97% of patients complained of pain, which radiated to lower extremities Every patient took part in 4.57± 2.24 sessions of acupuncture therapy The patients’ pain, as assessed by the Verbal Pain Scale changed from 5.05 ± 1.22 prior acupuncture therapy, to 3.25 ± 1.14 after it (P = 0.001) Following acupuncture, patients’ pain significantly decreased, suggesting that procedure can be used effectively in treatment of low back pain.
