Abstract EN

This study aimed at investigating the situation of composition writing in the secondary level schools in Port Sudan Town.

The study looked at the problems that confronted the pupils when they wanted to write a composition and tried to resolve these problems.

The research adopted the descriptive analytical methodology since it fits the aim and nature of the study.

To put this methodology in reality, the investigator used methods (instruments) such as a questionnaire and an observation checklist to attain the goal of the investigation.

The research resulted in the following: Pupils in the secondary level schools in Port Sudan Town were unable to have command over the composition writing skill, Pupils of secondary schools in Port Sudan Town failed to master any of the micro (sub) skills of the writing skill, At the end of the study, the researcher suggested a number of recommendations which preferred to be taken into consideration by both teachers and pupils when teaching/learning composition writing takes place.

The most important recommendations were: Pupils should be given a considerable practice in composition writing, Pupils should be given sufficient and efficient exercises on the sub-skills of composition writing, Teachers should implant in their pupils the adequate and appropriate confidence needed for composition writing, Teachers should develop the thinking abilities of their pupils through giving enough and effective practice in composition writing, Teachers should adopt an effective, specific procedure when they want to teach their pupils composition writing.
