Regional forest supervisors opinions of protected area management in Morocco

Abstract EN

The land of Morocco has been inhabited by humans for thousands of years and shows ،he signs of exploitation.

Protected areas were created to mitigate human impact on natural resources.

The lack of an appropriate management strategy for protected areas in Morocco compromises the objectives for which these areas were established.

The present study was designed to collect empirical information on protected area management conditions in Morocco and ways to improve them based on Moroccan regional forest super-visors’ insights.

The research design selected for this study was the case-study approach because of its high flexibility and low constraints and because of the exploratory nature of this study.

A telephone survey was conducted.

It consisted of a two stage interview.

The study revealed substantial factors limiting protected area management and potential solutions to deal with the factors.

Based on the study results, general as well as specific recommendations are identified for further investigations on the topic.
