Soil water tension at the soil-root interface of white spruce seedlings are computed for three soils of different texture at various levels of bulk soil water potential.

The results show that soil texture affects soil water potential at the soil-root interface.

They also suggest that the value of total plant hydraulic resistance, Rp, computed using bulk soil water potential measurements is strongly influenced by soil properties, plant water demand and other parameters that cause variations in near-root soil water potential.
