English Abstract

Remote sensing technology is increasingly being used to study land use and land cover changes and identify changes that has occur through different land use activities which may have negative impact on the sustainability of the environment, biodiversity protection and conservation.

With increase in population growth rate in Gaza Strip.

This research aims to assess the patterns of variation in Land Use Land Cover for the Gaza Strip and production of object-maps for 2004 and 2010, by using of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Where the research relied on the analysis of satellite images of SPOT 5 multispectral and spatial resolution up to 5 to 10 meters and four bands that is Red (R) , Green (G) , Blue (B) and shortwave infrared (SWIR).

The classification of satellite images of the study area by integration of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems techniques and their applications ENVI 5, ERDAS IMAGINE 2014, ArcGIS Desktop 10, Global Mapper 16, Google Earth 7 and ExpertGPS that is the most recent in this field.

The research relied on Maximum Likelihood Classifier one of supervised classification methods which demand field survey for the study area to make Training Site (TS).

At this stage, multiple sites has been selected to representative of those samples have been signed spatial areas of training site which numbered 270 samples representing 9 patterns of land on the satellite image and use it in all of the classification.

Then, the researcher assessed the classification accuracy by comparing the results with data that have been filed from the field during the fieldwork has reached the overall accuracy of the image classified (75%) attributed this decline relative the total accuracy rely on the three band of spectral when the analysis process, so the study recommend using a larger number spectral band of more than 200 band (Hyperspectral Image) so as to raise the classification accuracy.

The research showed the ability of remote sensing to production of maps objectaccurate land cover, in addition to showing the vital role of this technique in its coverage of the study area, which is difficult to conduct a field survey in other techniques.

The research recommends the use of remote sensing technology in the study of Land Use Land Cover changes what distinguishes this science of constant updating of data and monitoring the changes that occur to the environment, as is this way means the least expensive, especially in large spaces, and also recommends using visualizations most accurate and the most band of spectral, spatial distinction because of higher in small fields reduces the element of confusion that appears when the image classification.
