English Abstract
The aim of this work is to study the capability of activated alumina from bauxite compared with activated carbon adsorption capability to reduce the color content from Al-Hilla Textile Company wastewater.
Six dyes were studied from two types(reactive and dispersed) namely (blue, red, yellow) from wastewater and aqueous solutions.
Forty eight experiments were carried out to study the effect of various initial conditions (bed height, flow rate, initial concentration, pH value, temperature, and competitive adsorption) on adsorption process.
The results of this work showed the following: The time for the breakthrough point decreases with decrease in bed height and dye molecular weight in both pure and mixture solution, and increase in flow rate, pH value, initial concentration of dye in the influent, and temperature.
The capacity of adsorption increases with increase in bed height, influent concentration and dye molecular weight, and decrease in flow rate, temperature, pH value, and dye molecular weight.
The rate of mass transfer for initial stage of adsorption increases with the increase in influent concentration, flow rate and bed height, and decrease in pH value, dye molecular weight and temperature.
The results shows that the adsorption process which using activated carbon insuring a good degree of reduction of color (99.7%) and is best than activated bauxite which reach (95%) removal.
