English Abstract

According to a number of academic and technical reports, the construction industry (CI) in Arab countries, and particularly in Jordan, is currently experiencing substantial challenges.

As far as Jordan is concern, in Jordan this industry is facing a critical instant which will negatively impact its future.

The lack of cost completion, schedule, safety, and quality have been frequently declared in the press and in the technical literature as the most important causes of the lack of competitiveness in the CI.

The poor quality management of project design has been considered as a key reason for the recurrent time and cost overruns.

Earlier studies and reports have often found that projects' designs contain several errors.

In this research, the problem of poor quality management of project design in Jordan will be discussed critically using literature review and data from a number of interviews with experts in the construction sector.

The main reasons for the poor quality management of project design will be determined by means of a national questionnaire survey.

Then, this study will identify the significant top ten causative factors.

An analysis of measures that are due to reduce the problem will be performed.

After the three most critical factors derived from analysis and interviews with the experts have been identified, they will be discussed in a Workshop-Day.

The research will conclude by providing recommendations for managing those critical factors.
