Abstract EN

The present research aims at identifying the relation between mathematical (reasoning and students skills of solving mathematical issue in the fourth- scientific grade.

The sample consists of 415 students: 200 male and 215 female.

They were assigned randomly from four preparatory schools in mosul city for the academic year 2009- 2010.

To achieve the aim of the research, two instruments have been adopted.

The first is a mathematical reasoning test which has been prepared by Al- Mukhtar (2006).

This test consists of 30 items.

The second is attest for the skill of solving mathematical issue which has been prepared by the researcher and consists of 4 essay items of restreeted answers.

These items have been corrected in regards to the criterion of skills of solving mathematical issue.

The two instruments have been administered to the sample on march, 2nd., and lasted for a week.

After analyzing the collected data, The findings are: 1- There is significant correlation between mathematical reasoning and skill of solving mathematical issue for male students in the fourthscientific grade.

2- There is significant correlation between mathematical reasoning and skill of solving mathematical issue for female students in the fourthscientific grade.

3- There is significant difference between the two correlations; mathematical reasoning and skill of solving mathematical issue, for students in the fourth-scientific grade and for the benefit of male students.

The research concluded to a positive correlation between skill of solving mathematical issue and mathematical reasoning for male and female students.

The researcher recommends to make mathematical teachers be acquainted with the importance of mathematical reasoning to help them in teaching mathematical and solving the mathematical issue.

The researcher also suggests to study the effectiveness of a training program in making mathematical teachers acquier the skill of solving mathematical issue and testing its impact on student achievement
