Abstract AR

Abstract EN

The experiment was conducted at Al-Majjediah (Jordanian Badia) in spring and autumn 2011 to determine natural regeneration of Atriplex halimus and Salsola vermiculata shrubs, as well as number of selfregenerated seedlings and shrub productivity.

The current study indicated that self-regenerated seedlings existence of Salsola and Atriplex shrubs were 88% and 45% in spring and 75% and 14% in autumn, respectively.

The percentage of survival decrease was 15% and 69%, respectively.

Moreover results showed that Salsola seedlings are more droughts tolerant and had better ability of establishment after summer.

Shrubs dry yields in spring and autumn were 649.7 and 530.1 g/shrub, respectively.

Both shrubs showed high yield in spring.

Dry yields of Atriplex and Salsola shrubs were 642.3 and 537.5 g/shrub, respectively.

Atriplex and Salsola produced 11.67 and 6.26 seedlings per 2 m2 in spring and 3.62 and 5.22 in autumn, respectively.

We recommended Atriplex and Salsola for rangeland rehabilitation projects that aimed to self-regeneration using local shrubs and reduce cost.
