Abstract EN

The Ottomans seized the opportunity of the fighting between the sons of Imam Faysal Ibn Turki to return to the rule of al-Ahsa, and al- Qatif in 1288 H /1871 G.

when Imam Abdullah Ibn Faysal asked for their help in his fight against his brother Saud, he was hoping the help would take the shape of a limited force under his command, not a big expedition to occupy the country on a permanent bases.

The Ottomans found it difficult to run the province or maintain a viable administration, and did not find among their Arab allies someone who would accept this mission, Then they were inclined to accept the principal of a negotiated settlement with one of the sons of Imam Faysal Ibn Turki to rule the province in return for paying an annual tribute to the Ottoman treasury.

Hence came the Ottomans' approval to a mediation through Hajj Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Khan with Saud Ibn Faysal .The Author here is attempting to study the mediation and its anticipated failure which was due to the Ottomans' intransigence and the lack of trust between the two parties.
