sea water intrusion is one of the biggest problems in drilling water wells in the coastal areas.
So, the drilling in these areas must be done carefully to avoid the interface between the saline water and the upper brackish water layer.
This interface can be detected by using geoelectrical techniques.
So, the main target of this study is to identify the sea water intrusion on groundwater in El Ain El Sokhna area.
To achieve this target, 29 vertical sounding stations were carried out in the form of a grid in the study area.
All sounding curves were interpreted using computer programs to determine geoelectrical parameters (resistivity and thickness) of the subsurface succession.
Depth to the brackish water layer ranges from 10 to 38 m and it increases gradually from east to west through the study area.
On the other hand, its thickness varies from 92 to 135 m and also it gradually increases from east to west.
Depth to the brackish-saline water interface varies from 101 to 173 m and it is dipping to the west direction.
So, the drilling depths in this area must not excess the brackish-saline water interface and the amount of discharge must be controlled to avoid the contamination with saline water and rising this interface.
