Heavy metal is widespread soil pollutants and is an issue of great environmental concern.
Among the various environmental pollutants, heavy metals are getting importance as the problems associated with these contaminants have long-term and short-term effects on the overall ecosystem.
The present study was aimed to identify and characterize Pseudomonas putida HMR4 isolated from heavy metal polluted site of Zawar, Udaipur.
The strain HMR4 was characterized on the basis of morphological, cultural and biochemical properties and presumptively identified as Pseudomonas putida.
Functional properties of the isolate such as ability to secrete enzymes such as catalase, casienase, gelatinase etc.
were also studied.
This Pseudomonas putida HMR4 could grow well in presence of 12 mmol·L–1 zinc sulphate heptahydrate (ZnSO4.7H2O) and 1.5 mmol·L–1 copper sulphate pentahydrate (CuSO4.5H2O).
Further the physiological characteristics of the strain HMR4 were studied and it was found that the optimum temperature and pH for the growth was 37°C and 7.0 respectively.
