From 1843 to the fifties, the french psychiatric littérature,mainly issued from colonialism, construct a pejorative representation of the "Nord-Africain native".
This is theframework in which popular and still actual stereotypes about native Maghreb were bom.
The author reproduce in this article a chapter of a book about muslim woman, written by a praticioner who worked in Tunisia before thefirst world war The reader will see that, under humanistic thinging, the guidelines ofAlgerian school were shaped .
its goals is to give justification ٠؛ colonization on the basis of presumption inferiority of "native race ".

De 1843 aux années 50, la littérature psychiatrique française, en grande partie d'essence coloniale, a bâti une représentation pérojative, de l' "indigène Nord-Africain", dans laquelle prennent naissance les stéréotypes populaires toujours actuels concernant le Maghrébin.
L'auteur reproduit ici un chapitre d'un ouvrage consacré à la femme musulmane, par un médecin généraliste qui a exercé en Tunisie avant la première guerre mondiale.
On y verra que, sous le propos humaniste, se ,fait jour ce qui sera la ligne directrice de l'Ecole d'Alger :justifier la colonisation au nom du postulat de l'infériorité de la "race indigène".
