English Abstract
The demand for olive oil has significantly increased during the last few years.
Only few countries located in the Mediterranean basin produce this oil, and the Moroccan government tries to enhance this sector to take advantage of the growing world demand.
Unfortunately, the strategy followed up until now did not come up with tangible outcomes.
In this research, I focused on the supply chain of olive oil as a reason for the slow growth of this sector in Morocco.
The study focuses on strategic and planning decisions of the Moroccan olive oil supply chain.
The results show that the current Moroccan strategy to develop this sector was overly optimistic and should be revised to create a more viable one.
Ironically, Morocco has the means in terms of production facilities to produce large quantities of olive oil with a fairly high quality.
The solution seems to be an increased involvement of the Moroccan government to develop this sector; otherwise it is impossible to improve it.
