English Abstract

The present work was designed to compare between the efficacy of an ionophorous anticoccidial, semduramicin and a chemical anticoccidial, diclazuril in the prevention and treatment of cecal coccidiosis.

Three dose levels for each drug were used half recommended (0.5, 12.5 ppm), recommended (1, 25 ppm) and double recomnebded (2, 50 ppm).

The obtained data demonstrated that diclazuril and semduramicin are a potent anticoccidials even at half the recommended dose.

Diclazuril could be used at a dose level of 1 ppm to obtain the most satisfactory benefits.

The most reduced oocyst count was with diclazuril prophylactic dose (2 ppm) without improvement in the overall performance.

Diclazuril at 2 ppm given therapeutically improved the performances comparable to the prophylactic doses without any significant side effects.Semduramicin displayed a dose dependent growth suppresion.

It was found that one week of withdrawal for semduramicin is essential for compensatory gain to occur.

However, after a more extended withdrawal time coccidiosis may relapase.

The double recommended dose of semduramicin displayed a deteriorated performance that is not compensated after the withdrawal of semduramicin.

Under no conditions semduramicin could be used for treatment of cecal coccidiosis.
