Forty-five nasal swabs were collected from sheep suffering from respiratory manifestation during winter 2001.
The swabs were prepared for isolation of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus on tissue culture Madin Derby Bovine Kidney (MDBK) cell line.
The isolates were identified by indirect immunofluorescent technique (IFT) and indirect immunoperoxidase test (IPT).
Further detection of IBR DNA in tissue culture fluid was carried out by using polymerase chain reaction PCR with primers complementary to the sequence of IBR glycoprotein gB gene.
PCR results confirmed and agreed with those results obtained by conventional methods.
