Abstract EN

Salgard, contains organic acids (formic and propionic acids) and their ammonium salts, is used as a feed additive (1 liter/ ton) to reduce or inhibit growth of many bacteria and toxin- producing molds.

In this study, Salgard was under test for periods ranged from 1 day until 30 days.

Bacterial and mycological examinations were performed including isolation, identification and counting.

Salgard inhibited Proteus mirabitis, Citrobacter amaloniticus and Aspergillus ochraceus at a percentage of 100% after 7days.However, it inhibits E.coli at the same percentage after 15 days.

In addition, it inhibits the growth of Mucor spp., and Aspergillus flavus after 30 days.

Nevertheless, it failed in destroying all gram-positive bacteria during the period of experiment.
