Abstract EN
The morphology of the oesophagus and stomach of M.
electricus with special reference to the glycoproteins was studied.
The oesophagus was lined with Stratifeied cuboidal epithelium with many goblet cells and club-shaped (alarm containing) cells.
The stomach was three parts, proximal, middle and distal part.
The oesophageal secretion contained neutral and acidic glycoproteins, while that of the stomach contained only neutral glycoprotein.
The oesophageal goblet cells contained terminal N-acetyle--D-galactosamine and terminal -D-galactose while the stomach mucin contained only terminal N-acetyle--D-galactosamine according to the use of horse radish peroxidase (HRP) labelled BS-1 and HPA.
