Lead, cadmium and copper content of normal and subclinical mastitic cow, s milk in Kafr el-Sheikh and el-Gharbia Governorates

Heavy metals are considered among the most important chemical pollutants in food specially milk and dairy products which leads to several public health hazards.

This study was conducted to determine the levels of some heavy metals as lead, cadmium and copper in normal and subclinical mastitic cow,s milk in Kafr El-Sheikh and El-Gharbia Governorates.

A total of 52 composite milk samples of normal and subclinical mastitic milk (26 each) were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer to detect the level of heavy metals.

The results indicated that lead and cadmium metals were detected in 100% of examined samples with mean values of 1.54  0.15 mg/L& 0.69  0.05 mg/L in normal milk resp.

and 2.9  0.14,1.02 0.08 in subclinical mastitic milk samples resp., while copper was detected in 96.2% and 80.77% of examined normal and subclinical mastitic milk samples resp.

with a mean values of 106  5.98 mg/L and 71.9  3.72 mg/L respectively.

Non of the examined samples contained these heavy metals beyond the maximum permissible limits.
