English Abstract
The aim of this research study is to examine the relationship and impact of budget deficit on the Moroccan stock market.
By using annual data for the period of 1992 – 2013 related to budget deficit, MASI index, MADEX index, and 12 Sector Indices, this study will investigate the effects of budget deficits on stock prices.
In order to check for any long run relationship between budget deficit and stock prices, this study has applied three main tests which are Augmented Dickey Fuller test (ADF), Johansen Co-integration test, and Granger Causality test.
This study shows that there is a negative long run relationship between budget deficit and stock prices for the majority of stock sector indices.
The Moroccan government must implement a solid policy to improve its budget deficit since the performance of the stock market is absolutely affected by the continuous budget deficits that Morocco is still encountering.
