English Abstract

Since the last decade, the notion of shareholder value has become one of the most discussed business terms all over the world.

Factors such as the globalization of the markets and the increasing competitions have led the creation of shareholder value a major concern for both managers and investors.

Nowadays, we can find that most of the companies claim that they are embracing the notion of shareholder value.

Yet very few companies know the real meaning of shareholder value, its importance for the company and investors, the ways to create it and how to measure it.

The present paper will try to shed the light on this notion in the Moroccan context through the investigation of the corporate performance of the Moroccan companies listed in the Casablanca stock exchange during the last five years.

The aim is to present a clear picture of the Moroccan companies embracing the notion of shareholder value creation.

The present paper is organized in the following way: • Chapter 1 deals with the background of the research.

It starts by defining the major term that will be used in the paper which is shareholder value and its importance today’s globalized world.

The chapter next defines the problem of the research and describes the purpose, scope and the audience of the research.

• Chapter 2 is an appeal to literature that deals with all the aspects of the project.

The aim is to enumerate and present all the current and past researchers who have been interested by the notion of shareholder value creation.

An important part of this literature will deal with the different models and ratios that have been used for the measurement of shareholder value.

This includes the presentation of the old traditional measurements and the description of the new models • Chapter 3 describes the methodology that was used in this study.

It also includes a full explanation and description of the model that will be used in the study.

• Chapter 4 deals with data and the empirical study.

The first part of the chapter gives a detailed presentation of the primary and secondary data that was used in the study.

The second part of the chapter will present the results of the empirical study, with an attempt to analyze and explain the findings.

• Chapter 5 provides concluding remarks and recommendations based on both the analysis of the findings of the empirical study.

This chapter also reviews some of the limitations of the project and suggests recommendations for future work.
