English Abstract

In this project I built an application that serves the restaurant business.

The application is designed to ease and simplify the daily tasks undertaken by waiters, restaurant manager, and chiefs alike.

Key features of the application are its use of advanced technology and devices, namely distributed computing, PDAs and Touch Screens, as well as different user experiences adapted to each device.

The application is in fact a collection of four integrated sub-modules: 1.

Handheld point of sale module that uses a PDA and manipulated by waiters who are responsible for taking orders from customers inside the restaurant. 2.

Administration module that is managed by the system manager.

This latter is responsible for the end of day operations as well as the system’s personalization.

This module is running in a usual personal computer. 3.

The third module is called the chef.

This latter is used by restaurant chefs with touch screen usage.

This module is responsible for executing all orders sent from the restaurant waiters. 4.

The fourth module is the desktop point of sale.

This latter uses a touch screen and is responsible for handling and managing all the restaurant order entries at the kiosk. All the modules share the same back end database system in order to save and retrieve any restaurant information.
