English Abstract

The freld of cellular networks has known a remarkable expansion in ihe recent yedrs; it turned oul lo be one of the fastest growing segments of the telecommunications industry.

One of the main goals of wireless network manufacturers is to provide mobile users with approximately the same scrvicos as those available to the fixed hosts.

Currently, 3^"^ Generation technology called Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is intended to provide a global mobility, Quality of Scrvicc (QoS) and ensure a wide range of multimedia services without delay or packet loss Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) technology was selected for UMTS I'errestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) air interface; therefore efficient Call Admission Control (CAC) scheme.

Resource Management and HandafT prioritization algorithms need to be designed and implemented in the Radio Resource Control (RRC) in order to guarantee QoS in WCDMA-UMTS.

This work addresses the followings issues: ).

Provisioning QoS over WCDMA in UMTS by building a Testbed that includes a mobility prediction Geographical Information System (GIS) based resource reservation for handoff prioritization and supports QoS-driven power control, QoS-profple aware CAC scheme.

Soft Handoff (SHO) prioritization strategies.

2.

Designing and implementing the GIS based resource reservation for an efficient handoff prioritization To address the first issue» we designed and Implemented a Tcstbod for the evaluation of QoS provisioning in WCDMA based 3G wireless networks using the GIS based resource reservation scheme for handotTprtoritizaiiot^, It combines the work done by [3] and [4] by redesigning and improving the Call Admission Control (CAC), Power Control Schemes and handoff prioritization strategies.

To address the second issue, we designed and implemented a mobility prediction scheme: GIS Based (GB) Scheme that incorporate real-time mobile positioning information.

We also designed and implemented a dynamic resource reservation (DRR) scheme that uses both incoming and otiigoing handoffs predictions for an efficient handoff prioritization,
