A new spectrophotometric method for the determination of nortriptylin–hcl in pure and pharmaceutical preparations

A simple rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method for the assay of Nortriptyline-HCl is described.

It has been found that Nortriptyline-HCl reacts with alizarin suffocate sodium to give pink color product.

The resulting color solution shows maximum absorbance at 530 nm.

It provided a basis for a sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of Nortriptyline-HCl.

The method obeys Beer’s Law from 1 mg to 22 mg ml-1.

The cooler of the final product is stable for more than 24 hours.

This method has been successfully applied for the determination of Nortriptyline-HCl in pure and pharmaceutical preparations.

The common excipients do not interfere with the proposed method.

A statistical comparison of these results with those of a standard method shows good agreement and indicates no significant difference in precision.
