Abstract EN

Recently some contemporary Southern Arabian scholars revived the theory advocated by some of the last century scholars namely, the practice of Matrilineal by the Arabs based on a small group of inscriptions which suggests indirectly the practice of this social system, Although it is in limited cases.

With their recognition of the full sovereignty of Patrilineal- like their predecessors the recent scholars based their theory in classical writer’s interpretation comparing these interpretation with some of the customs and traditions practiced by a few tribes in Southern Arabia, and assuming that these are remnants of the old Matrilineal practice.

This study examines these views and examines the inscriptions in an attempt to verify the validity of the views mentioned in this paper.
