Abstract EN

The present study intended to inspect the Quranic texts devoted to the environment, as well as, recognizing their significance.

The study also explored the extent of employing Quranic texts in the 1st circle of basic stage science textbooks in the academic year 2011\2012 in Jordan.

The descriptive analytical approach was used to devise the most central signs of the Quranic texts associated with the environment, then the extent of its use in the cited textbooks was explored.

The study focused on Quranic environmental signs as based on environmental education framework which comprises: the environment, its problems, legislations and rules that uphold them.

The study restricted the Quranic texts related to the environment into three domains.

The first domain is that of the natural environment which was found to be related to the atmosphere, water resources, livestock resources, plant resources, land, mountains, planets and stars.

The second domain is linked to environmental problems caused by man misconducts.

Examples of human actions found were those of actions that cause pollution, extravagance or waste, noise and chaos.

The third domain is the content related to urging man to preserve the environment which is pertinent to moderation, reform, appreciation of the environment aesthetics, and quietness or not causing chaos.

The study also concluded that Quranic texts are totally neglected in all units related to the environment in the first and second grade science textbooks.

Yet, only two Quranic texts were employed in the third grade textbook.

Finally, the researchers recommended a perspective on how to employ Quranic texts in all of the three science textbooks.
