Abstract EN

The main purpose of the study was to explore the capability of Big Five Personality Factors (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness) in predicting Ellis’s Irrational Beliefs.

The Big Five Personality Inventory and Rational-Irrational Beliefs Test were given to (250) male and female students at Mutah University.

The results revealed that the most dominant personality factors were (Extraversion, Openness and Agreeableness), while the most dominant irrational beliefs were (One must not face difficulties and it is easier to avoid them, One’s past history is determining one’s present life, If something is or may be dangerous one’s should keep dwelling on the possibility of it occurring, and Emotional disturbance is mainly caused by external circumstances).

The results also showed that there were no significant differences between male and female students on the big five personality factors and irrational beliefs.

The results of regression analysis showed that neuroticism, openness and agreeableness factors were the most personality factors can predict most of irrational beliefs.
