Abstract EN

This research examines sixth grade students' performance in number sense and computational skills.

The sixth grade students came from public and private schools : English, American, and bilingual schools.

The study also considers the differences in these students' performances in these schools.

To collect the data, the researcher built a number sense test and a computational skills test.

A sample of 726 students participated in the study.

600 students from public schools and 126 students from private schools.

Results show low performance in number sense and computational skills in all students in public and private schools.

The ANOVA test indicates statistically significant differences in students' performances in public and private schools in number sense and computational skills in favor of the sixth graders in private schools.

Also, significant differences in sixth grade students in private schools in number sense are found in favor of English schools' students.

Implications for teaching are discussed based on the results of the study.
