English Abstract

The goal of this project is the development of a Remote Tourist Tracking (RTT) application, as a part of a whole suite of applications, to be used by tourists visiting ^^orocco, to make their stay easier and enjoyable, and to enhance their safe^.

The ^nctionalities developed in this project include: • Displaying the map of ^^orocco (or a region of ^^orocco) with its roads network; • ?anning, rooming in on and rooming out of the displayed map; • £nabhng the user to manipulate and display different categories of geographical information (cities, rivers, etc); • Tracking tourists’ vehicles equipped with a GPS receiver, and plotting their position on the map; • Querying for information about a moving vehicle; ٠ Assisting tourists via SMS messages (sending/receiving SMS and parsing them with priority).

In order to implement these different ^nctionalities, a set of mobile computing devices was employed including: a GPS receiver as a localisation means, and a GSM modem as a communication tool between the moving vehicle and the tracking system.

In addition, the OpenMap package, for map display and management, and Java communication API, for serial port communication, were used.

This report gives the details of the main ^nctionalities needed/developed in the RTT System along with explanations and justi^cations about the methodology, options, tools that were used.
