English Abstract

smart home project Is a large project l^؛tla؛e^ at لم Akhawayn University that aims ٠؛ conceive and build a smart home system.

T^e project consists of designing and buifding an automated home control unit.

This control unit1ا؛ما receive remote commands from the user, either ^a the Intemet, a mobile ora handhe!^ device a^d ا 11؛سماrحوولr a series of scenarios such as running the ٧^^ to record some specific TV program on a given channe].

This control unit has to be built using some ^m^unication pOocol that handles advanced embedded communicator technologies.

This report conta]ns a comparative study of easting inteliigent building technologies, namely X-10 from ^٦٥ Corporation, EHS from association, Ce©us from the Electronics Industry Association, LonWori؛s ^rom Echelon Corporation, Jini from ^un Microsystems, and UPnP from Microsoft Corporation.

This study ^eads to the choice of Microsoft’s UPnP as a development platform.

The second part of the report discusses the phase of designing and developing the underiying of the protocc^ in order to build a Java م^ملا Control Point SDK, This SDK will help developer to create UPnP consol point in a ^uicl؟ and efficient manner.

The final pa^ of the report talks about the future works and perspectives of the smart home project, that is to say, the necessity to keep the project up-to-date with the development of the UPnP protocol, on cne hand» and the ne^ssity of c^ea^ng a s!m؛la^ SDK for devices on the other hand.

Then, both SDK's have to be ported to work on the ولvق Micro Edition.
