English Abstract

The objective of this research paper is to investigate the relevance of the application of goal programming techniques on university resource allocation problems.

The approach followed includes an extended review of the literature, which resulted in the selection of Lee & Clayton’s multi-criteria optimization model as a good example of effective use of goal programming methodology to solve a large scale academic distribution problem.

A simpler formulation was however proposed for the specific case of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane as a concrete application of the model, due to the complexity of the initial general formulation.

This paper includes also a computer based implementation of the simplified model as well as a sensitivity analysis part.

It also discusses the use of the model as a method to estimate the necessary academic resources for the project of launching new programs in industrial engineering at Al Akhawayn University.

Other managerial aspects are also covered, related namely to the network of activities required to complete the project as well as scheduling and planning practices.
