English Abstract
The purpose of this project is to design and implement an Environmental Information Management System (DEMS) that aims at monitoring the Environment at the level of one of the 16 Moroccan Administrative Regions, such as Meknes-Tafilalet and l’Oriental.
Such a system constitutes a corner stone in the Moroccan National Strategy for Environmental Management an sustainable development in general, and in the contribution of work of the Regional Observatories that have been recently established in particular.
The EIMS should be responsible for collecting, communicating and exchanging environmental information at the level of an Administrative Region between a large audience (public, Experts, information providers etc.).
Key features of the system are (1) its support for the organization of environmental information according to the DPSIR technical model: Driving forces – Pressure – State – Impact – Response; (2) the management of key environmental information in the form of indicators and raw data together with their metadata; (3) the ability for enrolled information providers to submit environmental data online; (4) its large set of functionality ranging from searching and displaying of particular historical data to managing DPSIR environmental loops/problematic; and (5) the ability to generate the Region’s yearly environmental report according to a standard template.
The system was designed and built as a Rich Internet Application, leveraging ZK framework so as to provide state of the art user experience and ubiquitous access to the environmental information stored in the system.
The backend is built according to the MVC design pattern leveraging standard frameworks namely Spring and Hibernate.
The business logic is handled jointly by ZK and Spring.
The system provides its own access control (Identification, Authentication, and Accounting) mechanisms.
And it was tested using real environmental information collected for the region of l’Oriental.
