English Abstract

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a relatively new imaging technique whereby digitized images of body organs are obtained.

MRI has proved to be the modality of choice for the diagnosis of several diseases.

It has shown a number of advantages over its alternatives and is becoming widely used in the field of medicine.

In the field of cardiology, in particular, several methods have been proposed and implemented for the analysis of heart function from MRI data.

The proposed methods provide information mainl}' about volume and mass of the left ventricle (LV) of the heart, as well as three dimensional representation of the LV.

Indeed, for an effective exploitation of MRI, there is a need of user friendly, intuitive, and comprehensive Graphical User Interface (GUI) allowing the use of as many methods for analysis as possible.

Such GUIs usually reflect the methodology and the techniques used by a particular radiology or cardiology department.

The present work is intended to provide the cardiology and radiology departments of Avicene Hospital (Rabat, Morocco) with a cardiac package for the display and analysis of MRI data.

The package consists of an easy to use and intuitive GUI that allows the display of a whole cardiac exam, as well as, an interactive semi-automated segmentation of the LV.

It also provides the possibility of displaying the three dimensional representation of the geometry of the heart LV.

This package is considered as the skeleton upon which one can build a comprehensive commercial package.
